Abstract
Maritime students are driven to do bad things just to satis1’ themselves with their bad vices, like stealing money from their parents, cutting their classes hours, getting into troubles in the community or even inside the school. These things may lead to even more unlikely things that they may even do notorious things to their people. The child-parent relationship is even gone worse because youths are being more and more stubborn while the parents are losing their temper and patience to understand the situation of their children. Parents tend to become stricter and they are being more authoritative to their children that may lead to a rebellion against theni. Parents should not only be simply just a parent, but they also be a best friend to their children. College students are commonly in desire to have fun. With this, one of the most usual thing college students do to have urn is through engaging in vices usually with peers. Drinking liquor, smoking, the intake of illegal drugs, excessive partying, and addition to computer games are just some of the examples of the said vices. Usage rates of such vices are high. It is of common thought that engaging in vices has some effects on a student academic performance, specifically college students. But what effects are these? Is it all negative, or are there some positive effects? Are the students aware of the effects?
The proponents have used the Descriptive Research Method wherein the study is focused on present situations. It involves there cording, description, analysis and the presentation of the present system, composition or processes of phenomena. Under the Descriptive Research Method, the technique used is the Survey Method, which is otherwise known as normative survey. The results and fmdings of the study should always be compared with the standards. With the survey method, researchers are able to statistically study the specific areas where the proponents must concentrate. Findings regarding the common practices being done and the methods which are commonly adopted by the employees are obtained with the use of the survey method. The research will be conducted among College students on the tertiary level in the vicinity of DYCI the researcher will use the 2nd yr. Marine Engineering and Marine Transportation students to acquire the data that is demanded. The study utilizes 2nd yr. BSMARE and BSMT students. The researcher has 100 respondents that will answer the questionnaire prepared by the proponents. Three data gathering instruments will be used in the study: (1) The Survey Questionnaire on students learning styles (2) Evaluation Questionnaire rating scales (1-5) — should be accomplished by the students.(3) Personal taped interview (qualitative) using semi structured and open ended question to the students and teachers (relating to problems encountered in the conduct of the said teaching practices and the immediate measures to solve those mentioned problems)
We Researchers designed a questionnaire as one of the data collection instrument of the study. The 2nd Yr. Students were interviewed. The interview questions were aimed at to draw relevant information concerning the effects of vices to students in Dr. Yanga’s Colleges Inc. The research offer the following recommendations to the administration in the college of maritime education of Dr. Yanga’s Colleges Inc. The students taking such vices, Maritime students to be particular, may take counseling to avoid such vices and curiosity. The students suffering depression, may take vices to relieve stress but gradually reduce dosage to overcome withdrawing to his /her vices. Overcoming vices is a hard to do, self-discipline or counseling is a common way to improve intervention to his/her vice.
