The purpose of the study is to know if marine engineering students have a math competency for the requirements to the marine engineering course.
The study focuses on math competency of the marine engineering student as a requirement in marine engineering course. The population of the study consist of students from first year to third year enrolled in BSMarE Dr. Yanga’s College Inc. The respondents consist of 34 first year, 33 second year and 33 third year students of BSMarE. These participants have experience or studying math subject as part of the curriculum of the course.
Based on our research that the researchers had done we found that the manne engineering students said that math is important in our course. It shows that math may consider as one of the major subject in Marine Engineering course. Based on the researchers finding out the students rating in their competency in math, most of the students were in average level the researcher recommends the following: Enhancement classes, tutorial classes, seminar and workshop. Enhancement classes may unique educational opportunities and practical hands-on to experience to understand math lesson very well. Tutorial class can be done in school, in home, or in any places whicn can be perfect for the class. Seminar and workshop can also be effective to the students who are studying math. These recommendations will help the students to have a valuable learning through the content of the math subject and enjoyable educational environment and offered to those who want to improve their skills in math.
