Abstract
The 1987 constitution article xiv section 6 stated that Filipino language shakk be further developed and enriched. That is why, the trend for tagalization or some would call it Filipinization has increased in the recent years. Among those in the media which have change language through the years are the movies. The 1987 constitution article xiv section 7 on the other hand, stated that purposes of communication and instruction the official language of the philippines are Filipino and, until otherwise provided by law. English. Its result for education department to adopt a bilingual program to promote the use of tagalog and english. However, the rampant spread of tagalized version of foreign movies leads the researhers to make a study on how it effects by bilingual skills of the students. The researchers therefore aimed to identify the effectiveness of english and tagalizes movie to the bilingual skill of the students. It focused on measuring the proficiency level of the students in Filipino and English in terms of grammar and vocabulary respectively. The reserchers utilized a comparative type of quantitative research to compare the effectivenessbetween english and tagalized to the bilingual skills of the students. Respndents were selected throug a purposive sampling satisfying the following criteria. (1) Respondent should be a students of masagana High School (2) Respondent should be a junior high school(3) Respondent sholud not be watched the selected tagalized movie yet. therefore, the researhers selected a total of 50 high school students from the 10 grade of masagana high school .The respondents were grouped into two groups. Control and experimental.The control group watched the english movie while the experimental group watched the tagalized movie.The control group wa was composed of 17 girls and 8 boys. The experimental group was composed of 16 girls and 9 boys. The respondents were homogenous i n terms of their english proficiency lecvel since thety are all selected from the first section of grade 10. Two grammatical proficiency test (English and Filipino) as well as two vocabulary proficiency test (Englishand Filipino), were administerd to the respondents. The data needed for this were collected using two kinds of quetionnaires. The first questionnaire aimed to assess the proficiency of the student in filipino. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between the proficiency level of the students and the control and experimental group. The results demonstrated that htese students from control group who watched english movie were performing betterin post test than those students from experimental group who watched tagalized movi. Female respondents were more enthusiast than the male as was shown on the results. Educationa; community contributed a great influence to the bilingual skills of the students as well as other sociological factors like movie genre and family. also, the researchers concludes that english movies can result to student speaking taglish through the sentences they recited during datagathering since it still contains few english word though they are requested to make sentences in Filipino.Then, the reserahers also concluded that tagalized movies improves the proficiency of hte students more on filipino than english. Finally. the findings of this study in general is that english movies are affect more the bilingual skills among students compared to tagalized movies. This study ended with some recommendations ti direct future researhers.
