Abstract
Drug rehabilitation is a term used to describe the entire process by which an individual gains the understanding and tools to to rebuilt their lives and learns to live a normal life free from the bond of chemical dependency. Recovery from substance abuse involves not only the process of going through a structured treatment program at a drug rehabilitation center, but also a life -long commitment to abstain from the use of mood -altering substance. The main objective of this study is to understand in a great depth the lived experiences of substance abusers after drug rehabilitation. The researchers would like to use these experience as a window of information not just for the nurse, but also to the family and community to look at these people in a different perspective. In this regards, this research study made use of a descriptive qualitative phenomenological approach to discover the meaning of subtance abusers experience and essences of the phenomeno.Furthermore, the researchers used purposive sampling in the selection of participants who represent the desired population based on the set criteria by the researchers. Nine (9) informants satisfied these criteria which include : (1) male or female substance abusers that underwent drug rehabilitation program, (2) are of legal age and are willing to participate in this study, (3) must have been out of rehab institution for a year or more. Interviews were recorded via digital camrecorde, and voice recorder. All videos were transcribed by the researchers. As soon as transcriptions are finalized, data analysis followed patterned in the colaizzi's seven step approach in phenomenoligal analyziz to identify themes that descibes the informants experiences. To stablish rigor and trustworthiness to this research paper, several strategies were implemented which included member checking and identification of personal biases of the researhers. based on the response s of the informants, the researher were able to formulate four emergent themes namely: (a) renewed discernment which tackles about the realizations of substance abusers due to the effects of thier addiction, (b) renewed relationship which explains that relationship of substance abusers with their friends, families, and especially with god is very important to maintain their spirituality as their biggest guiding force that led them to succeed in their rehabilitation and (d) renewed goals describes that substance abusers were able to aim for a better future for themselves and their family. The researchers therefore concluded that rehabilitation programs play an active role in the transformation process of substance abusers. This study is then reccommended to the community to have an open and a non-judgemental perception on substance abusers.
