Abstract
Family is the basic unit of the society. Growing up with a complete ,happy, and supportive family is a right of every child . The family structure , ideally provides a sense of security and stability that is necessary for children. When there is disruption in the family structure , it may have a tremendous impact on the child. The researchers aimed to study focused on the children's experiences while growing up and living with a single parent at the same time. Descriptive-phenomenological research design was used by the researchers. There were ten (10) participants who satisfied the set inclusion criteria which included:(1) college students who are 18 to 25 years old,(2)whose father works abroad ,or whose father is deceased, or whose parents are separated for at least eight years. Data saturation was reached after the in-depth interview of the seventh participant. To ensure saturation, the researchers added three (3)participants for the interview. The data that were gathered were transcribed and significant statements were extrcated. Analyzing and interpreting of data were done using the Colaizzi's method. Meanings were formulated from the significant statements. Formulated meanings were organized into themes. Themes were integrated into an exhaustive description. To assure the validity and trust worthiness of the study, bracketing and "member checking" were employed. Four emergent themes were formulated based from the congrgated information from the participants' interviews. The result were summarized into four emergent themes: (1)Situational comprehension which tackles how the participants view the phenomenon (2)Interpersonal Comprehension discusses the impact of the phenomenon on the participants'way of interacting with their single parent and significant others(3) Intrapersonal Comprehension describes the impact psychologically and intellectually of the participants and lastly(4) Pain Comprehension explains the feelings of anguish of the participants towards their fathers. Based from the results of the analysis, it is therefore concluded that the phenomenon made these children stronger and better individuals than they were before. With these, the researchers recommend health practitioners to support these children's emotional, physical, spiritual, social and psychological growth and development.
