Abstract
PRC-BON Resolution #112 Series of 2005; THE COMPETENCY STANDARDS key areas of Responsibilities under the 4 core competencies. Patient Care Competencies=65% which includes safe and Quality Nursing Care (50%), Communication (5%), Health Education (5%), and Collaboration and Teamwork (5%). Empowering Competencies=15% which includes Legal Responsibilities (5%), Ethico-moral Responsibilities (5%), and Personal and Professional Development (5%). Enabling Competency’1O% which includes Management of Resources and Environment (5%) and Record Management (5%). Enhancing Competency5% which includes Research (5%).
The Researchers used the theory of Dr.Patricia Benner which gave valuable insight in constructing the framework of the study. Benner described 5 levels of Nursing Experiences as Novice, Advanced Beginner, Competent, Proficient and Expert. The researchers considered this 5 levels in attaining the competencies in graduating student Nurses.
The purpose of this study is to assess the level of competencies of DYCI graduating
student nurses based on 11 PRC-BON core competencies and in terms of their Skills,
Knowledge and Attitude.
The study was conducted at Dr. Yanga’s Colleges Inc. the study made use of descriptive research that is intended for the researchers to collect information about present obtainable conditions needed in the chosen field of study. The researchers used four-likert questionnaire to gather information from 102 respondents from the guidelines provided by the adviser. The respondents were all fourth year graduating student nurses of DYCI. Based on data gathered and processed, majority of the respondents are age 18-2 1, most of them are females and sibling/member of the family. Most of them answered that they gained more knowledge in hospital rather in the community. The data gathered also evaluated
