Abstract
Learning with each other is very essential, it grandly affect learners character, could help in developing skills, build confidence, and strengthen learners social skills. In the recently implemented K-12 curriculum, one of the highlighted instructional strategies is collaborative learning. An aspect of collaborative learning that is perceived by the researchers to be extremely relevant to learning of Grade VI learners is cooperative learning. Cooperative learning encourages students to work in groups and teams. It is an instructional strategy that provides learning opportunities for the learners to socialize with their peers. Self-esteem affects a person’s trust in others, relationship, and work-nearly every part of lives and grow from mistakes without the fear of rejection. A way to help students achieve adademic success is to have positive self-esteem. The purpose of this study is to understand if the cooperative learning method will be able to help the teachers in building the self-esteem of DYCI grade 6 learners. The study is very essential because the result will conclude if the cooperative learning method will aid learners build their self-esteem. The study utilized pure experimental design. Experimental design is a research design that eliminates all factors that influence outcome except for the cause being studied (independent variable). The pure experimental design will help the researchers in knowing if the cooperative learning method can build the self-esteem of the learners. The research is conducted at Dr. Yanga’s Colleges Inc. elementary department. Data have been collected using a group made Likert-scale named (NMJC. Self-Esteem Scale). The scale is a 15 items test questionnaire which measured global self-worth by measuring feelings about the self The researchers performed an independent sample T Test for the Post scores of the two groups and found out that there is a significant difference on the self-esteem between respondents who are taught through cooperative learning method and those who are not. The results conclude that with the intervention using Cooperative Learning Method
the self-esteem of the Grade VI students were uplifted. The results recommend to the teachers to use the Cooperative Learning Method to help their students in building their self-esteem.
