An Explorative Analysis on the Effects of the Special Program in Foreign Language (SPFL) in Junior High School Students

Abstract
As mandated by the version of curriculum, new programs are introduced, programs that can train the students to become globally competitive, and beable to utilized their totality. One of the programs in foreign language(SPFL). The chosen research locale, Dr. Yanga's Colleges, Inc. (DYCI)adapted this kind of program by introducing the spanish language. The researhers decided the explore the effects of this progran to the students self esteem, cultural appreiciation, multitasking ability and their performance in academic areas. An analysis was also created based on the given literature. The reserahers decided to conduct a study through quantitative type of research, specifically descriptive survey method. In choosing the eligible respondents, the researchers uesd purposive sampling wherein they considered some criteria that helped them obtain the appropriate result. The researcher used the slovin 's formula in getting the sample size from the total number of population. The quetionnaires used by the researhers was subjected to validation and reliability tests through pilot testing and calculated through cronbach's alpha. where the researhers made questionnaires received 0.84 value. Based on data gathered, most of the students also believe that this program helps them boost their self esteem and it is reflected in the weight mean of 2.73. The students are able to pronouce spanish word correctlybut on the other side, they disagree that they are capable to speak foreign language in front of many. The respondents also agree that they have also become aware of the culture of spanish speaking country which is mirrored in the 2.62 weighted mean.However, the students disagree that their multitasking ability was developed. It is shown in weighted of 2.5.The students have difficulty switching between two system of writing as well as in speech.Lastly, the student show agreement that their performance in academic areas was developed. This idea was weighted mean of 2.51 . As a whole, the effects of foreign language program to the student has grand mean of 2.59 with a verbal equivalence of agree. Aside from the distributed questionnaire, the researhers also conducted oral assessment which determined the proficiency level of the students. according to the common european framework of reference of language (CEFR) scale, during the oral assessment, most of the respondents got B1 or threshold or intetmediate as their rating. While only one student got the higher levels like B2 or vantage or upper intermediate and C1 or effective operational proficiency or advanced. the rest of the respondents got A2 or way stage or elementary and A1 or breakthrough or beginner. The gender of the respondents does not influence their spanish language fluency based on the obtained rating of the students. Based on the results the researhers therefore conclude that the spanish language program oF dyci has a positive effect of the students.
