PERCEPTION OF FIRST TIME PREGNANT MOTHER’S REGARDING CHILDBIRTH: INSIGHT FROM FILIPINO WOMEN

Abstract
The study aimed to determine the perception of first-time pregnant mothers regarding childbirth taken form the insights of Filipino women. This is an important element associated with women’s initial delivery experience. The respondents in the study were one hundred fifty (150) first-time mothers presently having their parental check-ups in different lying-in clinic in Marilao, Bulacan, Majority of the first-time mothers were still single; housewives; and, finished secondary school. Fifty (50) of them were in their first trimester (1-3 months); also, fifty (50) were in their second trimester (4-6 months) and likewise, fifty (50) were in their third trimester (7-9 months). The study was conducted
different lying-in center in Marilao, Bulacan. Survey questionnaire was utilized in data gathering because it was easy to understand and much convenient for the respondents. The questionnaire was in the form of closed ended Likert scaling. Findings revealed that all of the respondents strongly approved on the vaginal delivery with a grand mean of 3.59 and an interpretation of strongly agree. Likewise, for caesarean section, they also strongly approved although three (3) statements were rated “agree only.” The grand mean was 3.49 with an interpretation of strongly agree. With regards to their perception on childbirth in terms of stages of labor, the respondents strongly approved on early labor phase and active labor phase with a grand mean of 3.48 and an interpretation of strongly agree and 3.65 with an interpretation of strongly agree respectively. The significant difference between the perception of the first-time mothers when grouped according to their profile such as age, civil status, educational attainment, occupation and pregnancy period reveals a rating of not signI cant therefore the hypothesis was accepted as a result of the demographic profile of the respondents are all not significant due to the present generation wherein the respondents have an easy access on the internet which provides
related perception to what they have.
