Abstract
This study is a descriptive analysis of the Behavioral Responses and Coping Mechanism of Adolescent Experiencing Dysmenorrhea. To achieve this objective, one hundred (100) students of Dr. Yanga’s Colleges Inc. Wakas Bocaue, Bulacan were given questionnaires for this purpose.
When meeting someone who suffers from persistent pain, one key question that often arises is: “How do you cope with the pain?” Attempts to understand pain coping have been a major focus of psychosocial pain research and clinical practice for the past two decades. Much of the interest in pain coping can be traced back to the emergence of more sophisticated models of pain (e.g., the gate control theory, the neuromatrix theory). These models show that pain is a complex, rhultidimensional experience that does not only has a sensory component, but also cognitive, affective, and motivational/behavioral components. The menstrual period is a natural phenomenon that occurs throughout the reproductive years of every woman. Most females experience some degree of pain and discomfort in their menstruation period.
Using a survey questionnaire, the residents’ demographic profile and tneir behavioral responses including coping mechanisms were determined. The data were then subjected to statistical treatment to come up with the subsequent findings.
The study revealed that in terms of the effectiveness of their coping mechanisms in response to their behavioral responses. The study also concludes that the respondents’ demographic profiles have no significant relationship with their coping mechanisms, which means that these variables are not predictors of their responses.
