Abstract
Pregnancy is a time of major change when a woman makes her transition from her previous roles to being a mother. Through her 9 months of pregnancy, she undergoes dramatic physiological changes and accompanying these are psychological tasks which she must deal with in order to prepare for motherhood. It is thus the intention of the researchers to measure the behavioral responses and coping styles of primagravida women as these factors may be indicators of healthy transition of women to their new role. It was designed as a descriptive normative study that utilized survey method to gather data on behavioral and coping styles. It gathered data from different selected barangays in Bocaue, Bulacan and enrolled forty (40) first time mothers.
Findings from the survey suggested that in general, pregnant priniagravidas had a positive behavioral response to their pregnancy as; most of the respondents claimed to have often felt happiness during their pregnancy and there was a high rate of those who had a positive outlook with the pregnancy.
As gathered from the survey the most significant coping styles of the respondents were as follows: Acceptance, Planning, Use of Religion, Positive Reframing , and Active Coping.
Using Pearson’s Product moment of coefficient the researchers were able to determine that the respondents coping responses and behavioral responses had a significant relationship.
Recommendations of this study focused on more research on the factors why these women had a positive outlook on pregnancy and the inclusion of cultural and family backgrounds on future studies.
