Abstract
The effect of junk foods and street foods to grade school children ages 9-12 years old at Bagong-Buhay -C Elementary school in Sapang Palay, San Jose Del Monte Bulacan was the chosen topic. The need to get involved of the children about health and nutritionwill give them awareness because it is everybody's concern and also that student nurses can share their knowledge to children in the aspects of their topic.
The respondents of this study were grade school children in Bagong Buhay-C Elementary school, ages 9-12 years old. The total population was approximately 100 students.
The aim of this study was to ask the student on what they think about eating junk foods and street foods which are very accessible to them. The location of their school is situated among the areas were most of the residents were not much of what they say 'well-to -do'. So residents here especially housewives would often open a small stall and sell foods that are affordable for the students especially during break time or recess, not because of economically speaking but financially as well. Most of these kids were not aware that they wont get any nutrients of these kinds of foods but still they tend to be patronizing it, the main reason was inexpensive and second, because of its availability because their houses are very far from the school and their parents are not responsible enough to give them nutritious snacks or lunches while they are in school. Its primary reason was that they do not have enough money to spend on food that they tend to neglect their children about being healthy because of their low budget. Instead, they allow their children to eat at school or outside the school without the knowledge if their kids are having nutritious foods or not.
Nutritious has assumed an essential role in our efforts to improve the quality of life of the children in our society. The importance of mounting a concerned attack against nutritions to minimizes sufferings and the loss of human potentials that hinders individuals and national development. This study will enable to guide us, not only the researchers but also as a reference for other future nurses who will be lucky enough to need this and gain knowledge as they go on with this study.
This research will be a valuable contribution to the nursing profession in dealing with effects of not having a good nutrition among children and also, this will serve as an eye opener to those people who will be able to read this in the future so that they will realize how lucky they are because they can have everything unlike other children who would simply eat foods to be able for them to survive. The researchers made a questionnaire that will evaluate their feelings and understanding about nutrition. As nutrition is a part of our daily lives, this study can be helpful to everyone.
