Abstract
Breast cancer is the top leading cancer afflicting women, and 2nd rank next to lung cancer in both sexes. Though treatments are now available for cancer patients ,compliance to these treatments remain an issue .Beacause of the serious , life threatening nature of cancer diagnosis ,spiritual needs of patients are perceived by the researchers as significant . In this light, the researchers want to know if spiritual faith has a relationship with the extent of breast cancer patients'compliance to treatment.Researchers used a descriptive-correlational design.Purposive sampling method is used in which researchers select respondents based on a set criteria that include breast cancer patients undergoing cancer treatments whether they are confined in a hospital or not . It involves 30 respondents recruited from a government hospital in Quezon City . The main instrument used in this research is a self-made survey questionnaire.it comprises three parts. The first part is the profile of the respondents the second part comprises of questions regarding spiritual faith .lastly the third part signifies the extent of the compliance to treatments of the respondents. Researchers conducted a pilot study to test the reliability of the questionnaires and got a Cronbach Alpha coefficient of 0.84 which means the instrument is acceptable for the study . Majority of the respondents are catholic which is equivalent to 77% of the sample population. In terms of marital status ,23 out of 30 respondents or 73% of them are already married while 27% are still single . Researchers found out that all respondents have strong spiritual faith with a mean of 4.97 among the available treatment for the breast cancer patients, majority are complying with chemoteraphy with a mean of 4.93. the r value of the variables is -0.1483 it means that there is little ifr any relationship between Spiritual faith and compliance to treatment .A negative correlation that it is indirectly proportional to other variable .As spiritual faith increases , the respondents comliance to treatment may decrease or vice versa in only a little percent since the result shows a weak correlation in the adjusted r value 0.23, it suggest that the extent of compliance of breast cancer patients to treatment can be attributed to spiritual faith by 23% and the remaining 77% are other factors that may affect compliance to treatment.the result of t-test 0.79 is less than the critical value of 1.701. Therefore , there is no significant relationship between spiritual faith and the compliance to treatment among breast cancer patients. To further the study ,the researchers recommend that future researchers include stages of breast cancer for more comprehensive result.
