Abstract
Every year, millions of students are enrolled in different courses of specialization. With the guide of technological innovations and contemporary teaching strategies, the education of the country is overly affected. This research sought to find
preferences of the students in choosing Maritime courses in terms of facilities, proximity to students’ location, affordability of the tuition fees, performance of the faculty, and students’ perception on the school. The level of enrollment in Maritime courses from SY 2009-2010, 2010-2011, 2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2013-2014 are considered as well.
The researchers used the descriptive method which sought to describe the study and versified through the use of survey questionnaire that are handed to Maritime students.
These factors which greatly affect the enrollment growth on Maritime courses have been studied and later found out that all these factors have greater variability. Most Maritime students choose a school due to factors such as facilities that the school has, its’ proximity to student’s location, the affordability of its’ tuition fees, the performance of its teaching personnel, and the students’ perception when it comes to the school itself.
Lastly, the researchers recommend some areas of specialization that needs improvement such as that the school shall continue to offer quality education with affordability. The management should look forward in considering when it comes to adding other necessary facilities and equipment for the school and for the students. The professors must be continuously dedicated when it comes to self-improvement and innovation in teaching. And the good impression of students in the College of Maritime Education must be maintained.
