Abstract
This study dealt with the Factors affecting the academic performances of 3’’ and 4th year DYCI student nurses. It was done by the researcher out of their awareness that
Academic Performances is one of the most crucial skills that a student nurses must possess.
It utilized the descriptive design and Sloven’s formula sampling method in which 5J respondents from the 3rd and 4t1 year Student nurses of college of nursing in DYCI were asked to answer a questionnaire regarding their profile, as well as their academic performances.
Student nurses showed very competent performance in the Academic competence, test competence, Strategic study habits and behaviors, Time management, and Test anxiety.
Academic competence is associated with student’s ability to manage their study load and is used to assess if students are able to manage the study material in the curriculum. It also provides an indication of whether the curriculum is interesting enough for students to enjoy their classes. Test Competence refers to difficulties associated with managing the amount study material for an examination and in preparing for them. Test competency is operational defined as student’s ability to manage and cope with the amount of study material for examinations and/or tests. Strategic studying is defined as the knowledge and application of effective skills of techniques by students. There are many efficient study techniques that could he used by students based on the learning environment. Time management has been defined as clusters of behavioral skill sets that are important in the organization of study course load. Time management skills include activities performed by the students such as planning in advance, prioritizing work, test preparations, and following schedule. Test anxiety is a series of responses like worry, depression, nervousness, task irrelevant cognitions, etc, to a class stimuli arising from an individual’s experience of testing or evaluative situations. Various stress management programs keep students to improve academic performance by reducing stress levels.
