Abstract
This research study aimed to know how the level of confidence of novice nurses affect their learning behavior in performing nursing care. Novice nurses are new to clinical setting. Hence their confidence level is not well developed yet in performing different nursing procedures. Relevantly , increased self-confidence and empowerment is related to improved motivation for learning and better outlook on a situation. This study was conducted exclusively in selected tertiaty hospitals in bulacan. A total of 30 respondents participated in the study. The researchers used a wo degree type of sampling, the researcher utilized purposive sampling to choose the hospital and a universal sampling to gather suitable respondents for the study. Moreover the researchers utilized an adopted survey instrument , the Learning Behavior Scale as a tool in evaluating the learning behaviors of novice nurses. The instrument's ionternal consistency, using the Cronbach's alpha coefficient from the Observational Study of Learning Behavior is 91 which is interpreted as excellent. Subsequently, the researchers also utilized the Confidence Level assessment Tool in order to measure the level of confidence of the novice nurses in performing nursing care which was authored by Albert Bandura. In samples from 23 nations , this tool Cronbach's alpha ranged from 76 to 90, with the majority in the high 80's. it suggest that the items have relatively high internal consistency. Data collected were analyzed using frequency and percentage distribution , contingency tables, weighted mean and Pearson-r to answer the research questions and t-test to determine the significance of correlation. The grand mean of learning behaviors of novice nurses in performing nursing care is 4.38 interpreted as very often which means that the repondents are willing to acquire new knowledge . Meanwhile, the respondent's level of confidence was rated 4.3 which is equivalent to highly confident.Research hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance . There is a very strong relationship between the learning behavior and perceived level of confidence of novice nurses with an r value of 0.83. It implies that as their confidence increases, their learning behavior also increases.furthermore, the adjusted r value of 0.68 means that 68% can be attributed to the level of confidence while 32% comes from the other factors that may affect learning behavior of the novice nurses . The computed t value is 5.6and the results revealed that there was a significant relationship between the level of confidence and learning behavior of novice nurses in performing nursing care. Moreover ,the board rating has a weak relationship from the level of confidence of novice nurses with an r value of 0.25. in addition ,3% can be caused by the board rating while 97% comes from the other factors that affect the level of confidence of novice nurses with an adjusted r value of 0.03. the computed t-value is 5.42 which indicate that there was a significant relationship between the board rating and level of confidence of novice nurses. Based on the results , the researchers strongly recomment to give novice nurses more opportunity to practice and perform different procedures that will enhance and develop their skills in performing nursing care.
