Abstract
A business evolves through many transitions over time. From start-up, through sole proprietorship to corporation, owner retirement, business succession and wealth transfer, each step involves different strategies to create wealth, reduce or defer taxes, reduce risk, take income and ultimately to extract retained business wealth. At business wealth strategies it guides small business owner through the strategies appropriate at each transition of their business. Relevantly, Rosalie’s Kakanin is one of those. They start from small capital and now a successful business. Rosalie’s kakanin is considered best in Bulacan in the kakanin industry and the business is still continued to expand and grow. Because of this, the researchers would like to know and understand the business growth transition and the strategies of Rosalie’s kakanin that they used to surpass all the challenges that the business faced and how the owner strives despite of hard life. The qualitative case study design was utilized to have an in-depth understanding about the struggles and adaptive measures that Rosalie’s kakanin used to achieved its current status. To assemble the necessary information, semi-structured interview and data recording using audio recorder were utilized as research instruments. To assure the credibility and trustworthiness of the data, the researchers used data sources. First was the video of Mrs. Rosalie Sarmiento from ABS-CBN k Puhunan segment. And the other resource data was from the interview took by the researchers from Rosalie’s staff. After gathering all the essential information, the researchers was analyzed the information that they gain from the video of My Puhunan and the interview that they conducted and combined it to ensure the clarifications of the results guided by the researcher’s theoretical framework, i.e. The Business Growth Theory of Churchill and Lewis (1983). The authors identified five stages of business growth: Existence, Survival, Success, Takeoff and Resource MaturIty. In each stage of the business growth indicates the challenges, struggles and strategies of Rosalie’s Kakanin in continuing the growth and development of the business. The struggles that were identified were educational background and the competition. To hurdle the struggles there were adaptive measures that were used for the business to survive. These are making new variants of products by innovating, studying the taste of the people, good quality of service, they did not make their competitors as a hindrance to succeed, the owner is not only after the money or the profit that the business earn but also for the people who also give their effort and sweat for the business. To achieve their current status an effective marketing and management strategies were also implied such as word of mouth which is the most effective way of promotion, positive feedbacks and positive customer relations, proper delegation of tasks, values incorporation, ensuring the quality of products, good quality service and price marketing. Furthermore, Rosalie’s Kakanin has already expanded. Moreover, the struggles that Rosalie’s kakanin faced serves as a lesson and an inspiration for every entrepreneur and the people who want to enter in this kind of industry to strive hard and pursue their dreams. Finally, the values that they include to the business have a great effect and impact in building a good customer relationship that also serves as a good strategy to achieve business growth and success
