Abstract
Internships the most anticipated part of being a college student. It is usually
done on the third and/or on the latter part of college years. By means of internship, students get a chance to utilize all the learnings that they acquired during their prioryears in their chosen profession. It is conducted locally as well as internationally inalmost every discipline including engineering, business, accounting, marketing, hospitality and science. On the other hand, internship on the field of teaching is done
mostly locally and is seldom in internationally. CHED (Commision on Higher
Education) under the Memorandum order no.24 series of 2009 came up with SIAP or Student Internship Abroad Program which aims to provide tertiary Filipino studentsenrolled in the Philippine schools to have the opportunity to acquire practical knowledge, skills and desirable attitudes in reputable establishments in foreign
countries. On November 2016, Dr. Yanga's Colleges Inc. College of Education conducted their first batch of SIAP. Ten chosen major in English and Mathematics students were sent to Bangbuathong School in Nonthaburi, Thailand to have their practice teaching. This program became achievable when Dr. Yanga's Colleges Inc. High School Department had its Student Exchange Program with Buangbathong
School in Thailand from February to March 2016. This study therefore primarily aims to have deeper understanding on the ontology on the lived experiences of the DYCI- CoED SIAP pioneers. In relation, this study used the descriptive phenomenological qualitative method which is indefectibly suited for this study since it is primarily focused on the lived experiences of Pioneer DYCI-CoED students who were exposed
for the internship abroad program. In line with this, the researchers utilized semi structured interview guide. The interview instituted an open-ended question that is arising from the statement of the informants. The interview lasted for about 10-30 minutes and a voice recorder was used. The researchers preferred a semi-structured interview as guide during the interview to get more reliable information from the
informants. This type of questions allowed the informants to have complete freedom in answering. The researchers' interviews with the informants were transcribed verbatim and were carefully broken down to arrive at emerging statements, interpreting and commenting on the results obtained and based on the researchers
understanding. Moreover, upon transcribing the interviews with the informants two
emergent themes arised which the researchers termed as Stambling blocks which
refers to the challenges of the informants on their international practice teaching and
Advancement acquired which refers to the advantages they obtained from joining this
program. To sum it up, there is a positive outcome to the DYCI CoEd-SIAP pioneers
as they entered the real world of teaching. All ten DYCI-CoED SIAP pioneers are
currently in the teaching field and utilized all the techniques and strategies gained
from international internship.
