Abstract
Adolescent is a period wherein the youth undergo physical, mental and of Interest which denotes the different coping strategies used by the adolescents (5) psychological changes and adaptation to these changes. It is also during this developmental process when conflicts arise resulting from different changes. These changes though normal, if ignored and not addressed appropriately, may lead to certain mental problems. This research therefore recognizes that adolescents may also be suffering from depression. In the Philippines the rate of suicide attempts among 15 to 19 years of age were 25% in 2002 and an increase in 2013 of about 11.7 %. Suicide and suicidal behavior account for the nineteenth leading cause of global disease burden and ranked as the sixth and ninth leading cause for global disease. With these statistics, the researchers have recognized that suicide is a serious problem among people especially during the adolescence period. The researchers therefore aim to determine the possible changes that surfaced after the attempt was made and its effect and meanings in the lives of those adolescents who attempted suicide. The researchers utilized Colaizzi's method 1n analyzing the lived experiences of adolescents who attempted suicide. Informants who had satisfied the criteria set by the researchers were selected through purposive and snowball sampling. Eligibility is based on the following: 1) male or female who once have attempted suicide regardless of methods 2) 12 to 18 years of age 3) should not be depressed at the time of interview, 4) a Filipino citizen presently residing in the province of Bulacan, 5) signed consent and is willing to participate and be involved in the study. The interviews were conducted using a semi-structured approach. Data gathered were transcribed verbatim after listening to audio and video recordings, significant meanings were extracted and eventually formed an emerged theme. In order to establish rigor, bracketing, member checking and content validation were done. The results from the study formed five emerged theme that illustrates the lived experiences of adolescents who attempted suicide. Themes include (1) Damaging insights which represents the thought process of adolescents during suicidal ideation, (2) Fight or Flight which depicts the struggles of the adolescents before attempting suicide (3) Self Restoration Struggles which focuses on the struggles of the adolescents after attempting suicide (4) Diversion Crossroads reflects the adolescents realizations after attempting suicide. The formulated central phenomenon is the "Right to be Heard" which calls on the attention of the public to raise awareness over suicide and depression. It is concluded that the adolescent who attempted suicide and eventually survived from suicide are bombarded with intensified emotions that are afflicted with so much pain and struggles faced.
