Abstract
The mother’s satisfaction dunng the birthing process as the most frequently reported indicator in the evaluation of the quality of maternity services. A positive birth experience is associated with an increased mother-child bond and maternal abilities, and contributes to her sense of accomplishment and self-esteem. In contrast, a negative birth experience can make the mother feel distraught and have a negative impact on her mental health, increasing the risk of postpartum depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Thus, the aim is to appraise the birth experience satisfaction of mothers during intrapartum taken in the Filipino context. The secondary aim is to correlate their satisfaction level with their sociodemographic profile. To realize this objective, this was attained utilizing a descriptive-evaluative research design. The respondents included 200 one-week postpartum women i.e. Filipino mothers who delivered their babies through lying-in clinics located in the abovementioned areas regardless of age, parity, civil status, and educational attainment. This encompassed the inclusion criteria as laid down by the researchers. Data were collected using an adopted survey instrument i.e. the Birth Satisfaction Scale as developed by Caroline Hollins Martin and Valerie Fleming in 2009. a 30-item psychometric scale designed to assess individual women’s experiences as developed by Caroline Hollins Martin and Valerie Fleming in 2009. Though adopted, the researchers still subjected the questionnaire to reliability, validity, and cultural sensitivity tests. The questionnaire has three overarching themes which are vital in measuring birth satisfaction. These include quality of care provision, women’s personal attributes, and stress experience during labor. Results revealed that educational attainment and civil status are important variables associated with greater birth experience satisfaction manifesting Filipino women who are married and with higher level of education demonstrate less stress during labor and that satisfaction with childbirth experience is not associated with age.
