Abstract
Giving birth is a wonderful yet challenging experience that nowadays mothers have a variety of options to deliver their babies. Every woman has the right to choose the kind of delivery she wants for her baby. As one of the options, water birth is the process of giving birth in a tub of warm water; thus, water birth is just another way of giving birth and not a special one. Warm water used in water birth is beneficial for mothers as it gives laboring mothers soothing, comforting, and relaxing feeling. Moreover, the water seems to reduce stress-related hormones, allowing the mother’s body to produce endorphins which serve as pain inhibitors. Buoyancy promotes more efficient uterine contractions and improves blood circulation resulting in better oxygenation of the uterine i muscles, less pain for the mother and more oxygen for the baby. For the baby’s benefits, water provides an environment similar to the amniotic sac, eases the stress of birth and gives a sense of security. With this, the researchers aimed to see if the benefits of water birth are being experienced by primiparous and multiparous women. The researchers used descriptive comparative design that compares at least two variables and concluded which is better. Additionally, the researchers presented quantitative analysis and interpretation of data, and the result of the study was presented through tables and figures. The participants were consisted of two groups: a primiparous and a multiparous with 30 mothers on each group who had a successful water birth experience from Metro Manila and nearby cities. A survey form was sent by email to each group regarding the benefits of water birth. The study resulted to an overall mean for the scores of primi group, 3.57, which was lower compared to 3.72 of the multi gIoup. The researchers used T-test in evaluating the result that was validated by the paper adviser. Based on the statistics, result revealed a T-stat value of -1.00 against the >2.1 T-critical value with a Pvalue of <0.05 which meant that there was no significant difference on the water birth experience between primiparous and multiparous women. The benefits of water birth are beneficial to all expectant mothers regardless of parity. Given this basis, the researchers suggest that more health providers especially midwives should undergo trainings regarding water birth, and more health care facilities should be set up for this another method of delivery, so that all mothers who want a gentle and natural birth can experience water birth.
