Abstract
Miscarriage is a term for any interruption of pregnancy before the fetus is viable. In 2010,it was estimated that in 1 In 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage. Relatively, women who had miscarriage are believed to be engaged in a highly stressful and emotional transition during and after the miscarriage. With this fact, this research study was conducted to explore the lived experiences of women who had miscarriage,so as to determine if these experiences have any significant effect on the lives of these women. The researchers made use of the qualitative-phenomenological design to inclusively understand the studied phenomenon. Researchers were guided by the copllective principles of snow ball and purposive sampling in the selection of informants. Ten (10) informants from bulacan satisfied the set inclusion criteria which include:(a)women who had miscarriage for the first pregnancy ,(b) must be eighteen years old and above(c) may or may not give birth successfully to a child and (d) must be in good health status. To better understand the experience,Collaizi's seven steps approach to data analysis were utilized.Trustworthiness and rigor were established using different strategies such as member-checking,and identification of personal biases.with all these repones, four emergent themes were formulated that represent the experiences of the informants. These includes (1)A Journey to Physiological Changes which discusses the resulting physical changes after the miscarriage ,(2)A Journey to Psychological Responses that talks about the informants emotional instability during and after miscarriage (3) A Journey to Recovery which explains how informants regain hope after the phenomenon,(4) A Journey to Heightened Spirituality that reveals how miscarriage strengthened their faith to God.Results also revealed that their lived experiences reflect the stages in the "grieving process" by Kubler-ross.Based on the research findings ,it is concluded that women who had miscarriage underwent emotional and physical strains secondary to the effects of miscarriage. Moreover, these experiences resulted to a deeper sense of spirituality among these women,With all the results, the researchers therefore suggest the general public to be extra sensitive in all their dealings with women who had miscarriage as they struggle both physiologically and psychologically.
