Abstract
This study aims to provide a reliable and believable source of information to heighten the awareness of the people about the beliefs and practices of Aetas on their use of herbal medicines, and guide future researcher who will conduct similar studies.
Descriptive design was used to collect, describe, summarize and analyze data in 30 randomly selected Aeta respondents of Sitio San Martin Burog village, Tarlac.
As a resuft, age group ranges from 46-50 has the highest respondents who has beliefs and practices on the utilization of herbal medicines with 27%, most of them are females with 62%. Among the beliefs of Aetas on the use of herbal medicines, most of the respondents have a strong belief that the utilization of herbal medicines came from their early ancestors. On the other hand, most of them disagree that the traditional forms of healing by using herbal medicines have been greatly affected by the intrusion of modem medicine. Aetas have different modes of preparations in making herbal medicines as their practice, but among those modes of preparation, decoction is the most utilized method, and heating is the least commonly utilized. There are many common herbal plants that are utilized by Aetas, but the most commonly utilized in treating ailments is Kamote. Second are Oregano and Bayabas. Samat is the least commonly used among the
• common herbal medicines used by the respondents. Stomach ache is the most common ailments that can be treated with the use of herbal medicines by the respondents. Second are wound and diarrhea. The least among the common ailment are the skin diseases.
Recommendations were made to further broaden the locale of this study.
