Abstract
Teenage pregnancy is very common nowadays,it is something that is very alarming for there is an early transition of roles. From their life being a teenager ,there is a drastic role to meet, and that is being a mother.The unexpected maternal role could be a lot of challenge to them for it brings about big responsibilities .in this research study ,the primary objective is to reveal and described the lived experiences of teenage mothers . Also, this study intends to develop a deeper understanding of the researchers towards teenage mothers. Using descriptive phenomenological approach and guided by the priciple of data saturation ,the researchers interviewed nine(9) teenage mothers who satisfied the following criteria (1) aged 18 years and below,(2) had signed a consent form and agreed to be interviewed for the study,(3) took care of their child for the successive four months since birth,(4) has the custody of the child and (5) mentally stable and capable of answering questions..The participants were citizens of bulacan. The data were gathered through the use of video recording and fields notes. Response from the participants were analyzed utilizing the Collaizzi's seven step of data analysis.to further establish trustworthiness of this paper,member checking and bracketing were applied. Three emergent themes were formulated that describes the lived experiences of teenage mothers.these included(1)Perceived Maternal Role which describes the perception of teenage mothers towards motherhood (2)Perceived Maternal Struggles that reveals how the phenomenon impacted the lives of the participants as teenage mothers and (3)Perceived Maternal Identity which expounds how teenage mothers embraced and committed themselves to being a mother.Based on the findings,the researchers concluded that teenage mothers became responsible for the consequences of their action. They readily accepted the untimely pregnancy .with all these, the researchers recommend that special attention be given to the growing numbers of teenage mothers. Programs that concern the diverse needs of these individuals ar perceived to be necessary by the researchers.
