Abstract
mathematics is probably the most difficult subject in the eyes of a learner. Mathematical equations and concepts are indeed quite difficult to understand especially those who are in the intermediatr level-- Grade four, five and six that leads to the disinterest of the learners in the mathematics subject. One of the factors that affects the interest of the learners especially in the intermediate level in Mathematics in the nation that what they are learning in Mathematics class will be no use when they go outside the fourwalled classroom. The researchers see that with the use of new teaching strategies, the practical lives. One of these teaching strategies is thematic instruction. The researchers see that thematic intruction will improve both cognitive and effective domain of the learners for the researchers see that in order to appreciate the learners' mathematical concepts, it shoulde be related in real-life situations. what is the level of the problem-solving skills and practical values of the research subjects who received conventional teaching/thematic instruction? The research intend to know the level of the problem solving skills also the level of practical values of the research subjects from those who receive thematic instruction from those who did not. The researchers used pure experimental in tis study. The study has two groups control and experimental; has an intervention thematic instruction; and the reasearch subjects were designated with the use of simple random sampling. The study used two researcher instruments test for problem-solving and the other is for practical values that has been validated by five experts each. The researcher subjects were intermediate learners came from tuktukan Elementry school with the total of 180 research subjects, 60 research subjects per grade level (Grade Four, Five, and Six) and divided into two groups for control and experimental groups with 30 research subjects per group. The control group was taught through conventional teaching while in the experimental, they received thematic instruction. The topic is about problem-solving involving Decimals. Result shown that thematic instruction has positive effect to the research subjets. Thematic instruction can be
