To answer the questions how do the students rate themselves as regards with the compliance of aseptic technique in ternis of hand washing, gowning, gloving, wearing mask, maintaining the sterile field. Disinfection/sterilization of equipment and instruments, preparing and injection of medications, changing linens, patient’s skin preparation, medical waste disposal, how do the clinical instrucors rate the extent of the compliance of the BSN Ill students with the different aseptic teehniques in terms of hand washing, gowning, gloving, wearing mask, maintaining the sterile 5eki,
disinfection/sterilization of equip em and instruments, preparing and injection of medications, changing linens, patient’s skin preparation, medical waste disposal. It further sought to determine the significant difference between the self-rating of the students and rating of clinical instructors as regards to the compliance of students with the different aseptic techniques.
The study was conducted at Dr. Yanga’s Colleges, Inc. The research design used was descriptive normative type and convenience and accidental sampling method. The researchers used a self made questioniies to gather information from 110 respondents based from the guidelines provided by the advisers. The respondents were third year college students who were enrolled at DYC1 college of Nursing of the school year 2006- 2007, and the clinical instructors who are working at DYCI; resvondents were chosen at random basis.Frequency, weighted mean, standard deviation and T-test were used to data gathered.
Findings
Through the study made, it was found out by the researchers that the BSN III students usually comply with the aseptic technique in terms of hand washing, gowning, gloving, wearing mask, maintaining the sterile field, disinfection/sterilization of equipment and instruments, preparing and iijecting medications, changing linens, patient’s skin preparation, medical waste disposal. Likewise, it was also found out that the clinical instructors see their students as usually complying with aseptic technique in terms of hand washing, gowning, gloving, wearing mask, maintaining the sterile field, disinfection/sterilization of equipment ad instruments, preparing and injecting medications, changing linens, patient’s skin preparation, medical waste disposal. Lastly, they found out that there is no significant difference between the self-rating of the students and rating of the clinical instructors.
Conclusions
The researchers have concluded that most of the BSN III students are usually complying with the different aseptic techniques. Also, most of the clinical instructors rated the students as usually complying with the different aseptic techniques. Moreover, there is no significant difference between the selfrating of the students and the rating of the clinical instructors.Recommendations
Through the findings and conclusions derived from the study, the researchers recommend that first, for the faculty of the college of nursing to constantly look for new learning opportunities in order to improve and update their knowledge with regards to aseptic technique.
Second, the clinical instructors must be fully conscious of their professional attitude especially in the clinical area because they serve as models to the students they are handling.
Lastly, future researchers must conduct further studies concerning the compliance of aseptic technique by the BSN III students and the clinical instructors
