Abstract
Students nowadays could easily deal with stack up school works with the help of technology and they make it as their buddy to accomplish their works in just a short period of time. While technology improves the life of students, it also brought up some negative effects when it comes to the preservation of honesty and credibility m their works. Lifting papers of the Internet is one of the new trends of plagiarism and technology is giving students even more ways to cheat nowadays This study focuses on the effects of the copy-paste culture and its implication to the writing skills of the Education specifically their spelling, vocabulary, and grammatical abilities. Moreover, it identifies the common information that respondents copy-paste which mainly mcludes texts, photos, and literary piece The researchers used a descnptive survey method with a combination of Likert Scale and Multiple Choice questionnaire to gather data for the study. Through the use of Slovin’s Formula, the sample was composed of 150 students from 1st year to 4th year students of the College of Education of Dr. Yanga’s Colleges, Inc. wherein stratified random sampling was used. The questionnaire was subjected to pilot testing and the result of Cronbach’s alpha Internal consistency had a value of 090 which is interpreted as excellent The researchers used a customized questionnaire wherein the first part of the questionnaire includes the demographic profile of the respondents The second part is composed of two questions for the frequency of the copy-paste and information that the respondents tend to copy-paste. The third part is consisted of 10 Likert Scale questions to determine if there is a copy- paste culture. The last part was adapted from Ortega (2015) which contains what is the influence of the Jejemon texting style to the development of the students. With this design, the researchers were able to know if the copy-paste culture affects the students’ writing skills in terms of spelling, vocabulary, and grammar. To sum up the findings, the researchers found out that the highest percelitage on the most copy-pasted information was the text information with the percentage value of 51%. For the frequency of copy-paste individual, 58% of the respondents often practice copy-paste culture. The result of the Likert Scale regarding on why students do the copy-paste culture have a general weighed mean of 2.80 and with a Chi-square critical value of
40.113 which means that the null hypothesis is rejected therefore, the copy-paste culture was being practiced in the College of Education m Dr Yanga’s Colleges, Inc In terms of the writing skills, the spelling proficiency has an R-value of 0.049, the vocabulary proficiency have an R-value of -0.001 and grammar proficiency have an Rvalue of 0.05 which indicates that there is no significant relationship between the copy- pasting and the spelling, vocabulary and grammar proficiency. As a result, the copy- paste culture is being practiced by the students yet there is no significant relationship between the copy-paste culture and the respondents’ writing skills in terms of spelling, vocabulary, and grammar.
