Abstract
Reading is one of the macro skills that everyone should develop. It helps an individual to enhance and improve skills in various factors. It is essential for it increases the development of the reading comprehension skills, broader vocabulary, enhancement of grammar and improved proficiency in their chosen language. Thus, reading materials are now being utilized in the internet world. One of the innovations in technology is the Wattpad, an electronic book. Wattpad stories are originally written by different authors with diverse genres or categories and are posted on the internet. Among its followers, mostly are teens, given that their generation is very much in trend with technology. Through this, the attention of the researchers was caught and became interested in the topic. Thus, the focal point of the study is to know how influential reading Wattpad stories to the study habits of the Junior High School students of Dr. Yanga’s, Colleges Inc. (DYCI). It also aims to know the impact of the study habits namely, Time Management, Knowledge Acquisition, and Application of the Knowledge Acquired through reading Wattpad stories. Furthermore, this descriptive survey research used a self-made questionnaire as the instrument in a Likert Scale approach, in which it was validated by three experts. As interpreted with the gathered mean of 4.67 for the validity, it indicates that it is valid to provide unbiased data for the study. Hence, to test the reliability, Cronbach’s Alpha Internal Consistency was used. As perceived with the computed value of a83, it signifies that the survey questionnaire is acceptable and reliable. Additionally, through the use of the Slovin’s Formula, the total sample was composed of 350. As regards the instrument used in the study, it consisted of the inquiries about the influence of reading Wattpad stories to the study habits of Junior High School students of DYCI. The survey questionnaire includes the demographic profile of the respondents. Next, the statements used were divided into three sections: Time Management, Knowledge Acquisition, and Application of the Knowledge Acquired. The scale used was Strongly Influential, Influential, Uninfluential, and Strongly Uninfluential numbered from 1 to 4 respectively. To sum up the analyzed data for this study, the researchers found out that there are more female respondents with 83.69% than male with 16.29% who read Wattpad stories. Generally, for more than 4 hours there are 43 .26% who read Wattpad stories. Likewise, the commonly read genres are Romance and Teen Fiction with 69.10% and 69.94% respectively. Moreover, the Time Management ranked 3, the Knowledge Acquisition ranked 2, and the Application of the Knowledge Acquired ranked 1 with a mean of 2.45, 2.39 and 1.96 respectively and are Influential. As a result, the study habits have a grand mean of 2.27 and is Influential. Therefore, it was found out that reading Wattpad stories are indeed influential and have a big impact on the study habits of the Junior High School students of DYCI.
