Abstract
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is considered a worldwide health crisis and a growing epidemic nowadays. The incidence rate in the Philippines shows that 23,000 patients are undergoing dialysis treatment in 2013 ranked number 18 for the cause of total number of death worldwide. In this regard, dialysis became the last sort of treatment for survival. This made the development of new therapeutic option for treating CKD increasingly important. One of the new theripeittic options can be done by the use of stem cell for
treatment. This is why, the researchers’ aimed to explorw how CKD patient adapt and
survive by the use of stem cell as additional therapy. The researchers utilized a
descriptive qualitative phenomenological design as outline by Colaizzi to capture the essences from the lived experienced of CKD undergoing stem cell therapy. Coresearchers were selected through snowball and purposive sampling satisfying the set criteria: (1) Patients diagTlosed with CKD that are, at least, showing any noticeable improvement or changes to their urination and skin color during the course of stem cell therapy. (2) Patients taking another treatment aside from stern cell therapy and exposed to it for at least 6 months. Conducting semi-structured interview, the researchers interviewed for Researcher as guided by the principle of data saturation. After the interviews, innumerable reading and re-reading of the transcribed interviews, reviewing and re-listening to the audio were done. Significant meanings were identified and combined within the interviews and eventually formed as a common merged theme. Furthermore, participant observation and field notes were also utilized. To establish rigor and trust worthiness of research result, bracketing and member checking and content validation were done there after. The research result five emergent themes that depict the experienced of CKD, these themes inclurie: 1)Prior RelaledAdversities which represents the challenges that they encountered in terms of functionality before undergoing stem cell therapy, (2) Regaining Physiological Function, focuses on the activities of daily living that can be done. (3) Encouraging Hopefulness represents how co-researchers regained hope during the course of stern cell therapy, (4) Social Reintegration represents how there socialization goes back during the course of stem cell therapy, (5) Deepened Spirituality denotes how the co researchers become religious and more dependent to God. Based on these findings, it is then concluded that the stem cell therapy by CKD is giving theni hope to bring back their normal life and it is e’ident effective to their bodily alteration. As a nurse it is important that guidance and support to these people is done by finding alternatives which are being utilized well and such heipfui and significant information
they need are being expanded.
