Abstract
Nowadays, the increasing number of nurse-patient ratio and inadequate hospital resources greatly affect the quality of care rendered by nurses to patients. The disturbing condition of the Philippine health care delivery system hinders the achievement of optimal health recovery of patients. With this scenario, the researchers decided to gauge the effectiveness of care provided by nurses and consequently comes up with a nurse effectiveness program. The research utilized a descriptive correlational and comparative research design. Data were obtained through a survey instrument patterned in the Five basic Aspects of the Nursing Process. Thirty respondents from selected tertiary hospitals in Bulacan were asked to answer the research questionnaire.Respondents were selected through purposive and random sampling . These include 15 registered nurses designated in the medical ward with at least a year of experience and 15 patients age 18 yrs old and above with at least 2 to 3 days of stay in the hospital and being cared for by the pre-selected nurse respondents. The researchers utilized self made questionnaire for both set of respondents which went through pilot testing for its internal consistency with a result of 0.82. Results were collated, determined and interpreted through utilization of statistical treatment methods such as frequency and distribution, weighted mean,Pearson-r,and T-test,Based on the study conducted, regardless of the age of nurses, they are still effective on rendering care to patients when it comes to providing their needs through the utilization of the nursing process. It is supported by the result of Pearson -r of -0.48 which is interpreted as substantial negative correlation. This means that wether high or low ,the degree of the age of the nurses is associated with a high degree of the result of the evaluation of the effectiveness of care. On the other hand the length of experience affects the effectiveness of care provided by the nurses with the result of Pearson-r of 0.45. this means that the longevity of exposure to daily routine emphasizes how competent a nurse may become, it is established through the result of T-test , which is t=9.09>0.05,with verbal interpretation of significant relationship between length of experience and care effectiveness . The longer experience they have ,the more effective staff nurses become as supported by Patricia Benner's theory of levels of nursing experience. The researchers found out that in the 5 phases og the nursing process , nurses are very effective with a grand mean of 4.09. it is also revealed that nurses do best during the planning phase with the grand mean of 4.65 . Which means that , they are good in formulating goals and selecting nursing interventions. Based on the results , the researchers successfully come up with a comprehensive proposed program suggesting strategies to enhance the areas to improve on by nurses.
